Our journey begins by following a road through beautiful rural fields full of pistachio trees and royal fig trees.
Upon our arrival you will realize that Vravrona constitutes the ultimate example of what the ancient Greek sacred sites used to look like.
You will have the chance to see and explore the temple of Artemis. Close to this temple you can also see the unique stone bridge and the cave shrines, among which is the renowned shrine of Iphigenia.
Artemis was believed to be the Goddess of vegetation and hunting, but also the protector of women in child-birth and their infants.
Every four years the festival in honor of the Goddess was held here.
A procession started from the shrine of Artemis on the Acropolis of Athens and concluded in Vravrona at the sanctuary of Artemis.
Women also used to offer gifts to the sanctuary during their pregnancies in order to placate Goddess Artemis and convince her to guarantee a safe childbirth or even thank her for the healthy newborns.
Such offerings, in addition to intricate ceramic depictions of the procession, are part of the collection of the Archeological Museum at the site of Vravrona that we will visit as part of our exploration.
The museum of Vravrona is also the ideal place to visit if you want your children to get a good understanding of the children’s everyday life in ancient Greece as well as the history, culture and heritage.
Little toys that were offered by children to Goddess Artemis, similar to toys that children continue to love nowadays are found in this Museum and as part of our visit we will explore aspects of the everyday life of Greek children.
Let yourself explore Vravrona and learn the intriguing stories and myths that surround this historical figure of the Goddess Artemis and enjoy the natural beauty of the area and walk through the paths that thousands of Athenians used to walk every time they wanted to feel closer to the divine element.
Your chauffeur will wait for you to continue all the way to Cape Sounio.
There you will visit the Temple of Poseidon and have time to let your mind roam through ancient monuments with the immense blue of the Aegean Sea as a background. You will be able to feel the summer breeze on your face and capture some of the greatest pictures anyone could ever imagine.
The beauty of the surviving ruins has impressed many travelers of the past centuries who have visited this magical place, among which the famous poet, Lord Byron who wanted to leave his signature on one of the columns. Visit the temple and try to find it yourself.
Take your time to enjoy a tasteful lunch in a small tavern right by the water hearing the sounds of the sea and admiring the scenery.
